February 6, 2024 –The National Center for Teacher Residencies (NCTR) team focuses on transforming educator preparation by advancing the teacher residency movement to prepare, support, and retain more effective educators who represent and value the communities they serve. We are thrilled to be leading the design of a national conference with our collaborators–the American Association of Colleges for Teacher Education (AACTE), Deans for Impact (DFI), The National Board for Professional Teaching Standards, Teacher-Powered Schools, and The Hunt Institute

The National Symposium for Educator Preparation, Policy, and Leadership will convene the education community to identify and highlight effective and equitable strategies, resources, policies and practices to recruit, prepare, and retain an effective teacher workforce with a focus on teachers from historically marginalized communities. The inaugural National Symposium will host two keynote speakers who have had tremendous impact on the teaching profession and inspire our work for a just educational system, Gloria Ladson-Billings and Dr. Leslie Fenwick.

The National Symposium is being held at the Westin Michigan Avenue hotel in downtown Chicago. The conference begins on Wednesday, April 17 at 3 p.m. CST; and immediately following Wednesday’s scheduled sessions, there will be a reception! Thursday, April 18 is a full day with sessions running from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. CST. On our final day, Friday, April 19, sessions will run from 8 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. CST.

Register now to attend! We can’t wait to see you there! There will be so many opportunities to learn and connect with the teachers, university/college faculty, education deans, teacher leaders, school district personnel, school district superintendents, state licensure and certification professionals, education leaders, and state and federal policymakers attending and presenting at this year’s Symposium.
