Message from the CEO: Listening to the Voices in Educator Preparation

SHARE

October 6, 2026 — When we listen to the people closest to educator preparation, a clear picture emerges: Funding decisions have real consequences for programs, aspiring educators, and the communities they serve.

That’s one of the central takeaways from a new collaborative survey conducted by NCTR, AACTE (American Association of Colleges for Teacher Education), and Deans for Impact (DFI) examining the impact of 2025 federal educator preparation grant cancellations.

On October 8 at 3 p.m. ET, NCTR and AACTE will host a webinar on the findings, bringing together leaders and researchers to discuss what the data tells us, what we heard from impacted programs, and what comes next.

We will also release a report with these findings that captures what educator preparation programs and the people closest to this work experienced when critical funding was abruptly withdrawn.

These findings are about more than funding. They are about the systems and supports we need to prepare the educators our students and communities deserve.

At NCTR, we believe transforming educator preparation requires us to look honestly at what is working, understand where barriers exist, and listen to the people closest to the work. This collaborative report gives us an opportunity to do just that—and to consider what these findings mean for the future of the educator workforce.

Join us for When the Funding Disappears: The Impact of Cuts to Teacher Preparation.

The webinar will not be recorded, so we encourage you to register in advance.

We hope you’ll join us for this conversation—and help us continue building the conditions needed for strong, sustainable pathways into teaching.
