November 19, 2024 — In celebration of American Education Week, the National Center for Teacher Residencies believes in recognizing the contributions of those who may go unnoticed for the work and talent they bring to classrooms. One impactful role that comes to mind are teacher residents. We are shining a spotlight on teacher residents’ passion and contributions to the field of education by amplifying the real voices and stories of teacher residents across the United States.

Meet Sydia Campbell, Teacher Resident
Delaware State University

How did you come to find out about the teacher residency program?

I found out about the teacher residency program through my program supervisor.

Why did you decide to take part in the program?

I decided to take part in the program because of the great benefits that the program has to offer including yearlong classroom exposure.

Before beginning the program, what role(s) did you hold or continue to hold?

Before starting the program, I worked in various childcare centers as a teacher aide, and most recently this past summer, I worked as an afternoon assistant teacher.

How has being part of the program contributed to your life?

Being a part of the program has contributed to my life because I am able to make an impact on the many students that I encounter throughout the day and I am able to be a part of my student’s classroom experience all school year long. Being able to see their smiling faces when they see me and being able to see their growth and excitement to learn makes me very happy and proud of this calling that I am blessed to have.

What does teaching mean to you?

Teaching to me means that I am equipping the students with the knowledge needed to be successful in life and live happy lives.

What are you looking forward to most upon completion?

What I am looking for most upon completion of the program is being able to have my own classroom and be able to impact the lives of young students and make memories with my students that will last a lifetime.

We invite you to read more stories of teacher residents from our NCTR Network teacher residency programs.
