Elizabeth Hearn serves as a Director of Programs at NCTR. She joined the staff in 2022, and in her role, she supports residencies in NCTR’s Network. Prior to joining the NCTR team, Elizabeth served as the founding director of the CREATE Teacher Residency in Atlanta. The vision of the CREATE program – reflecting Elizabeth’s core values – is to establish “a compassionate, skilled, anti-racist educator for every student”. Since starting the program in 2012, CREATE navigated intense political challenges, secured multiple grants ($26M across 10 years), and developed engaged partnerships with a broad range of advocates. Elizabeth is proud of CREATE’s impacts, including 96% of their Black new teachers remaining in the teaching profession for at least five years. Elizabeth has also served as a science teacher and a researcher studying the neurophysiology of social attachment.
